That New Req Feeling
Staffing Institute Staff
It’s one of the best aspects of recruiting, the do over. It’s like the first day of class, a whole new ball game.
Then, invariably something goes wrong, the bloom is quickly gone and it’s the same old stuff: You can’t wait until the req is finally – over.
There are things you can do to keep that new req feeling longer. Don’t start recruiting until you’ve formally contracted with the hiring manger including defining:
• New Hire Quality
o The performance standards and when they’ll be measured
• Time
o Jointly established and as necessary
• Satisfaction
o What’s important to the hiring manager, and what’s not
We should all also recognize that it takes effort to optimize human performance and that mistakes are inevitable. Success is most often built on responses to mistakes and problems. Tiger Woods practices responding to mistakes and bad breaks as much as he does hitting from the tees and fairways and putting. Mimic his intensity next time you’re faced with a problem, then you too will have more occasions to celebrate.
