To be fair, we have to note that several employers have told us that job inquiries have increased by more than ten times in less than six months and that the number of particularly aggressive candidates has increased even more. This situation is being exacerbated by reductions in staffing resources (the Staffing 2009 report indicates that employers are planning to cut recruiting expenses by as much as 16% this year) but we must remember that everything we do touches not just the job seekers we interact with, but invariably the people in their lives.
It may be hard to respond to every employment inquiry professionally, but there are direct benefits. This country is amazingly resilient. Time and time again, American organizations and workers together, achieve the unachievable. They will do it again, the economy will turn and we’ll all have lots of jobs to fill. And if the candidates we want to recruit don’t remember how they were treated when they weren’t in demand, their family and friends will remind them.
We know it’s hard, but do what do you can because this too will pass.
